The Hands That Feed Us

Growing up on dairy farms, Jordon and Melissa developed a deep appreciation for working with animals. They wanted to provide their children with a similar upbringing, teaching them about the origins of their food and the responsibilities involved in raising livestock.

They purchased their property in 2013 with a vision to build a farm. The farm features a small purebred and commercial Charolais herd, with expansion plans for the near future. They also raise multiple groups of chickens during spring and summer months, and turkeys once a year for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their small flock of laying hens produces eggs year-round, available for pickup at the farm.

Outside of farming, Melissa and Jordon both work full-time. Melissa is a Registered Massage Therapist at a chiropractic office, and Jordon owns his own Power Line Construction Company. During winter months, they focus on their children's activities, and during summer months, you can meet them at the Carp Farmers Market.

As vendors at the Carp Farmers Market for five years, Jordon and Melissa are located outside along the red exhibit barn. There, you'll find a variety of their chicken products, Homemade Chicken Pot Pie, and Homemade Buffalo Chicken Dip.

Our Poultry

Our farm raises free-range pastured chickens, providing them with a spacious fenced-in area to roam during the day and a secure barn to retreat to at night, protecting them from predators. We acquire our chicks as day-olds and keep them between seven and twelve weeks to produce a variety of sizes. Our chickens have unrestricted access to a vegetable-based protein crumble 24/7 and have unlimited access to grass outside. Once our chickens have reached the age of processing, we transport them to a family-run, government-inspected processor located in Eastern Ontario.

To ensure the well-being of our flocks, we enforce strict biosecurity protocols and participate in audits that verify our adherence to ethical poultry farming practices set by Chicken Farmers of Ontario.

Our Beef

Our Charolais cattle have been a lifelong passion of Jordon's since his childhood. In late spring, our cattle are put out to pasture when the grass has grown to a length that can sustain the herd.

We utilize a three-pasture rotational grazing system for our cattle. The cows are occasionally treated to grain pellets, an offering they eagerly anticipate. Throughout the winter season, the cows are fed hay in the barnyard.

When joining our waitlist for beef products, you will have the opportunity to customize cuts based on your family's needs. You can choose how you want your meat cut and packaged. While the initial cost may seem substantial, breaking down each item and comparing those prices to grocery store alternatives reveals significant savings.
